Magician DD2

The Magician, also known as the Skull, is a recurring humanoid class in the Disgaea series first introduced in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.

Appearance[]

Magicians wear a hood with eye inserts. In Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and its early ports, this hood is stitched to cover its whole face, leaving it to appear like a mask with a stitched mouth. Other depictions show Magicians as humanoid boys with glasses on, as the hood is not closed to form a full face mask.

Characteristics[]

Magicians are boys capable of wielding mysterious powers and enter into magical academy at a young age, devoting themselves to their studies. They come from the Fantasy Netherworld named Magitopia. Only those who can prove themselves through harsh courses and competition are granted the trademark skull hood and glasses, which are designed to increase their concentration. When their concentration is at their peak they enter a trance like state, noted by them making odd noises, and can harness concentration power over 200 Polgia. Due to their upbringing, they are more studious and serious than Witches.

They can learn magic spells corresponding to their aligned element, but some can learn spells from all four elements. However, the ones aligned to a specific element are more easily able to learn the most powerful versions of their spells.

Gameplay[]

They specialize in using spells to deal elemental damage from a distance. While Disgaea 2 they gain Skill EXP faster, from Disgaea 3 onwards they use more SP for skills but deal more damage than normal, meaning that there is a choice given to the player in which they can either use Witches to not burn out on SP as quickly, or use Skulls to deal the most damage but burn out SP quicker.

Skulls were introduced in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness as one of the starting classes. Rather than each tier being a stronger version of the previous one, they each instead learn differents set of spells. The first 3 tiers all count as tier 1, and are unlocked by default.

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness[]

Main article: Magician (Disgaea D2)

The Magician appears as a starting class. A new feature when creating Magicians involves choosing their Element forte. Rather than being determined by class tier, a Magician learns spells matching their chosen forte. Hence, creating a Red Skull who uses either Wind or Ice magic rather than the usual Fire magic is a possibility. However, this also means none of their tiers learn multiple elements anymore.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance[]

The Magician appears as a starting class. Like in Disgaea D2, his skillset is chosen by forte rather than by tier.
