The Hyperdrive is an accessory in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and its rereleases. It has not appeared in any other Disgaea games to date. This unique item states that it boosts a character's movement and jump stats to 99, but has extra functionality beyond this -- it allows instant teleportation to any location on the map, even distant disconnected islands in the Item World. However, characters are prevented from moving directly to Item World exit gates, or stepping onto them at all; the Hyperdrive must be unequipped in order to move to the next floor. A common use for the Hyperdrive is to keep it in inventory until needed, then equip onto a character, move, and unequip it again without even ending the character's turn.

The Hyperdrive is a legendary rank 40 item, but has a unique text appearance similar to the Yoshitsuna and Super Robo Suit, flashing blue in the original game and an aqua color in Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness and later releases.

Obtaining the Hyperdrive[]

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness[]

You will automatically receive the Hyperdrive upon killing an Item God 2. There is no announcement, it will simply appear in your inventory if you have the space. For best results, have at least two open inventory slots -- one for the Hyperdrive, and one for the item you are in. If you do not have inventory space, you will have one more chance to obtain it by buying it at the shop. If you enter and exit the shop without buying it, or save and load your game, then you will have missed your only opportunity to obtain it.

Unlike in later releases, on the PS2 you do NOT have to travel through all 100 floors without exiting, killing the Item God 2 is sufficient.

Also unlike later releases, on the PS2 you can travel through your Hyperdrive to floor 100 and steal another one from its Item God 2, and continue doing this to obtain as many as you like.

The Item God 2 must be killed by an attack from one of your characters. If it dies from a Geo effect, poison, or attacks from other enemies, you will not be given the Hyperdrive.

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, Disgaea DS, and Disgeaea 1 Complete[]

You will receive the Hyperdrive by traveling through all 100 floors of a legendary rank 40 item without exiting once, and then killing the Item God 2. A message will pop up to let you know you have received your Hyperdrive the moment you kill the Item God 2. If you do not have the inventory space for it, you will have one more chance to obtain it by buying it at the shop. If you enter and exit the shop without buying it, or save and load your game, then you will have missed your only opportunity to obtain it.

While traveling through the item, be very careful every 10 floors to NOT choose to return to the castle. Also be sure that your characters are powerful enough to make it all the way through, as enemy levels and power climb rapidly as you progress. At floor 100 of a rank 40 item with no Stronger Enemies bills passed, enemies are likely to be in the level 4000-5000 range, and the Item God 2 will likely be around level 7000 with 2 million HP.

Unlike the PS2 version, you cannot obtain a second Hyperdrive under any circumstances. You can only obtain one per save file.

The Item God 2 must be killed by an attack from one of your characters. If it dies from a Geo effect, poison, or attacks from other enemies, you will not be given the Hyperdrive.

Valid Item God 2 items[]

The following items are the only ones that will have an Item God 2 on floor 100, and thus the only items where you can earn the Hyperdrive.

Name Type How to Obtain
Ultimus Fist Steal from Item God of a legendary God's Hand
Yoshitsuna Sword Steal from Item God of a legendary Cosmic Blade
Glorious Spear Steal from Item God of a legendary Longinus
Galaxy Bow Steal from Item God of a legendary Artemis
Etoile Gun Steal from Item God of a legendary Infernal Gun
Apocalypse Axe Steal from Item God of a legendary Durandal, or steal from Vesuvius in Stage 5 of Demonhall Mirror
Omniscient Staff Staff Steal from Item God of a legendary Galactic Staff
Nyanko Soul Monster Equipped by Marjoly when she is recruited
Nemesis Monster Steal from Baal, steal from Zetta, or steal from Rozalin in Stage 7 of Demonhall Mirror
Super Robo Suit Armor Steal from Baal
Gao's Guts Special Equipped by Marjoly when she is recruited
Crowdia's Beauty Special Equipped by Marjoly when she is recruited
Myao's Cat Ears Special Equipped by Marjoly when she is recruited
Arcadia Emblem Equipped by Priere when she is recruited, steal from Zetta, or steal from Rozalin in Stage 7 of Demonhall Mirror
Dream Hand Steal Hand Rereleases only; speak to the Data Shop cleric for every 10% of item collection completed

Of these, the easiest item to obtain (in rereleases only) is the Dream Hand. Most players will be able to get one before even finishing the game. However, this is one of the more fruitless items to dive into for the Hyperdrive, as its Item God 2 will not have anything special equipped to steal.

Recruiting Marjoly or Priere may prove difficult, but at least their items do not require traveling through 100 Item World floors directly. Stealing a Nemesis or Arcadia from Rozalin, or stealing Vesuvius's Apocalypse, are also relatively fast methods of obtaining Hyperdrive-valid items. Finally, the Glorious spear is slightly easier to acquire than other items, since you can obtain a legendary Longinus by getting a character's Spear mastery to 25 or higher, speaking to Longinus, then entering and exiting the Dark Assembly with that character and speaking to Longinus again.
