Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (魔界戦記 ディスガイアポータブル, Makai Senki Disugaia Potaburu, lit. Netherworld Battle Chronicle Disgaea Portable) is an expanded rerelease of the original PlayStation 2 game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness for the PlayStation Portable handheld system. Afternoon of Darkness was later ported to the DS as Disgaea DS and later still to the PC as Disgaea PC via Steam.
Notable changes from Hour of Darkness include new bonus maps, and additional campaign, and Ad-Hoc WiFi Multiplayer support.
Changes from Hour of Darkness[]
- Etna Mode: An alternate story campaign featuring a "what if" scenario starring Etna.
- Multiplayer Mode: Face other players in battle, or set up a shop to share copies of your items with them.
- New Stages: Completing the Cave of Ordeals unlocks a new map with a series of high level fights, including fights against Adell and Rozalin from Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories. There's also a secret stage where you can fight against Zetta from Makai Kingdom.
- New NPCs: A Music Shop that lets you listen to previously found BGM tracks, and a Record Keeper that shows data about game progression.
- Quality of Life: Added an option to turn off battle animations.
- Removed:
- Etna is voiced by Michelle Ruff instead of Amanda Winn Lee.
- Some songs have been removed due to licensing issues with Atlus, who localised and published the original Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, but have had no involvement with the series since. Such songs include "The Invasion from Within" by Tsunami Bomb, "One With The Stars", and the English version of "Red Moon".
